Welcome to The Black Emporium, a Dragon Age Fan Community! We're so happy that you've decided to join us. Here at The Black Emporium, we hope to create a positive and relaxing experience for everyone who loves the Dragon Age Franchise--without the fast pace of Discord or the unmoderated chaos that is Tumblr. Now that you've decided to stick around, we'd like you to become acquainted with our official rules.
1. This is an 18+ Community.
Minors are explicitly prohibited from joining this forum. Though not all content shared will be mature, we feel that as adults consuming a franchise geared towards adults, the forums should act as a space for us to share content without censoring ourselves.
Any minors who attempt to join the forums under false pretenses, be they months or even a day from their 18 birthday, will be banned immediately. No exceptions will be made.
I understand that the Dragon Age fandom as a whole has always been contentious; however, we ask that when joining this forum, you treat everyone kindly and with the respect they are due. Do not cause unnecessary drama and do not insult or bash anyone. If you have a problem with a user, we ask you to figure it out peacefully and, if not, then to inform an staff member.
We have the right to update rules as we see fit. We want to keep this community to be safe for everyone and the first step to that is through compassion.
We are not being paid to create, update, or moderate this forum but do it because we love the community and franchise. Therefore, we ask you to listen to the staff's instructions and warnings when given. If you have something serious to speak to them about, please privately DM them. Insulting, ignoring, or outright harassing a staff member will result in a strike and possibly a ban.
Remember, we care greatly about you and this place, but we are only human and disregarding that is not up for debate.
4. Hate Speech of any sort is strictly forbidden.
This extends from racism, sexism, antisemitism, islamophobia, xenophobia, antiziganism, homophobia, transphobia, acephobia, biphobia, panphobia, ableism, classism, suicidal/self-harm threats, and expressing any violent-–be they sexual, emotional, or physical-–threats. Slurs, misgendering, international white-washing, rape apologia, or an attempt to dogpile on a user is also included in this. Any of the above will lead to permanent banning.
If you see or experience hate speech, alert a staff member and it will be removed immediately.
Please note that while we do not have any power outside the forums, if we are informed or find a serious offense related to hate speech on another website, we may consider banning you and are allowed to do so to ensure the safety of the members of the community.
5. Harassment, Bullying, and Personal Attacks are grounds for immediate removal.
We all disagree sometimes but disagreement is not grounds to bully or harass someone. Attacking, abusing, trolling, doxxing, or attempting to gatekeep a user is against the rules and, depending on the severity of the offense, will either result in a warning, a suspension, or banning.
6. Private DMs are your business. Once you take your business with another user outside of the forums, we are not responsible for what takes place and therefore have no power if something goes wrong. You are only to involve the staff if you find that the same user is a danger to the community and needs to be removed. If three users come by about the same user, we may consider banning them.
7. Explicit Content is allowed but monitored. While we are an 18+ community, we ask that you place any NSFW content within the designated forums–-if you don’t, the content will be removed or moved to where it belongs. Swearing is allowed, however, as stated above hate speech and slurs are strictly forbidden. No content involving minors, animals, violent acts (sexual or physical), rape, incest, gore or other illegal activities is allowed within the forums. If you see content that breaks the rules, inform a staff member so it may be removed.
8. Do not post in the WLW or MLM Exclusive areas if you do not identify as such.
These spaces are meant only for WLW and MLM members so they can feel safe within our community. Fandom has a history of fetishizing queer people and while we are not saying our users will do the same, what we are saying is that WLW and MLM are valid in their frustrations and deserve a place where they can talk freely amongst themselves.
Are we saying you can’t post WLW or MLM ships at all? No, of course not! You can post it in any one of the other ship categories that are open to everyone. We’re saying that in those two spaces, you will leave the WLW and MLM members to enjoy and create content for each other. That’s it.
If you see someone entering these forums who are not either WLW or MLM, please tell a Staff so we can remove the post(s) and speak to the user.
9. Do not disclose any personal information such as addresses, phone number, SSN, IP address, etc. The staff do not need passwords or personal information to get into your account. If anyone asks for this information, inform a staff member right away so we can look into the matter.
10. No bashing, be it character, ship, or user. As you will see in the guidelines, we will encourage healthy debate and disagreement. We are well aware that people will not always see eye to eye and no one will be banned for a differing opinion--however, we will draw the line if we find that you are being pointlessly cruel or offensive. Attacking, dogpiling, gaslighting, or creating a generally negative experience just because you dislike something will get you a warning.
Fair's fair and if you hate a character, you are well within your right to do so-–but take your aggravation somewhere else so people can enjoy their stay here.
Do not clutter the forums by posting a topic several times. Do not spam the same conversation in different forums. You have a limit of (3) bumps per topic and may only post the same message (3) times in a row.
12. Credit all fanwork that is not yours. Sharing art is great; stealing it and reposting it under the context of it being yours is not. If you post any fanwork-–writing or art–-that is not yours, please credit the creator or your post will be removed. We support all creators here and do not entertain reposters.
13. The Three Strike System. In order to keep the community running smoothly, we will implement a three-strike system as punishment for any wrongdoings on the forum. We all make mistakes sometimes, we’re all human, but repeated infractions shows a total disregard for the rules and respect for the users, both Staff and Members, that we do not condone.
Small offenses-–such as spamming, fighting, or posting uncredited works-–will result in a warning. (3) warnings will result in a strike.
First Strike: Suspended for 2 Days
Second Strike: Suspended for 2 Weeks
Third Strike: Account (Username and Email) Banned.
Dangerous offenses-–including but not limited to hate speech, harassment, or posting illegal content–-will be punished with a complete ban–username, email, and IP.
